Spider-Man (alter ego: Peter Parker) is a comic superhero in the Marvel Comics universe. He was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko and made his debut in Amazing Fantasy #15 in August 1962. He's one of the world's best-known superheroes and star of a movie trilogy staring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Cliff Robertson and James Franco. Spider-Man acquired his powers by being bitten by a radioactively altered spider, allowing him enormous strength and agility, a spider-sense warning him of danger, and the ability to climb walls shoot web (the web shooter being a technical gadget in some depictions, and a natural internal ability in others). During the Civil War story arc, Spider-Man reveals his civilian identity to the world. Supporting characters in the stories include Mary Jane Watson (who Peter later marries), Aunt May, Gwen Stacy, Flash Thompson, Felicia Hardy and Harry Osborn. Some of his arch-enemies include Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Electro, Kingpin, Kraven the Hunter, Scorpion, Lizard, Chameleon, Venom and Carnage.
